STRAIGHT UP27–31 AUG 2027NOTTING HILL · WEST LONDON
Sequins catching the August sun, feathers shaking on each corner and steel pan sound can be heard for miles. 4 days starting with panorama. One main street. Millions of like minded people dancing and happy.

SINCE 1966 · 60 YEARS STRONG
Carnival was born out of the Windrush generation making a home in west London. After the 1958 Notting Hill race riots and the racist murder of Kelso Cochrane in 1959, Trinidadian activist Claudia Jones staged an indoor Caribbean cabaret in St Pancras Town Hall — the spirit that would later hit the road.
In 1966 community worker Rhaune Laslett brought a children's street fayre to Notting Hill, and when pan man Russell Henderson led his steel band off the stage and around the streets, the procession we know today began. Sound systems arrived in the 1970s, mas bands and Trinidad-style costume grew through the 80s and 90s, and Carnival became Europe's biggest street party — over a million people on the road every August bank holiday.
2026 marked 60 years of Notting Hill Carnival. In 2027 we're back on the road for many more years of pan, mas, food and family.
